Travel & Transportation
Airlines: All major airlines fly to Egypt. There
are non-stop flights from most major African,
Asian and European cities. Egypt has two national
carriers for internal flights-Egypt Air and Air
Sinai.
Airports: Cairo is by far the largest and busiest
airport. There are 9 other Airports in Egypt,
the main ones being Sharm El Sheikh, Hurghada,
El Tur, Luxor and Aswan.
Taxis: Taxis are available everywhere, especially
near all hotels and tourist spots.
Car Hire: There are hundreds of car rentals in
Egypt; the best-known ones are Avis, Budget,Hertz
and Misr Limousine.
Local Customs & Culture
Tipping Policies: It is common to leave small
tips. Use the 10% rule for bills up to LE 200.
For bills above LE 200, it is acceptable to leave
a smaller percentage.
Clothing: Egypt enjoys a moderate climate, with
the sun shining most of the year. Cotton clothing
is ideal. During the relatively cool season that
lasts from November to March, a pullover or jacket
can be handy. In winter, it is advisable to wear
layers that can be taken off during the heat of
the day and worn when needed as the temperature
drops in the evening.
Tobacco & Alcohol
Alcohol: Visitors are permitted 1 Litre of alcohol.
Tobacco: Visitors are permitted to carry 250 grams
of tobacco or 50 cigars.
Visas & Passports
Australian, Canadian, UK and US citizens can obtain
a renewable 30-day visa upon arrival. Most European
Nationals can now enter without a Visa by using
an ID card. Others must obtain a visa in advance.
Health & Safety
Health : All travelers should visit either a travel
health clinic or their personal physician 4-8
weeks before departure.
Local Climate
There are basically two seasons: a relatively
cool season that lasts from November till March
(average temperature is 22 degrees C) and the
hot season between April and October (average
temperature is 33 degrees C). Rainy days are few.
The Red Sea coast is less extreme and quite pleasant
year round.
